As a collaboration between our Green Stone projects, we, Tirta Maharani, Eden Rice and Kaleo Kolb collected portraits of the people of Bali, with the intention of listening to and sharing their stories, focusing on topics of social injustice. The theme ranges from poverty, gender-based violence, experience with trauma to struggles with stigmatized concerns, and many others. We shared these stories and portraits with the greater Green School community through a photo gallery event, held on May 19th, 2023. All money raised goes directly to the individuals in the portrait and organizations in need.
With this project, not only do we want to provide a form of financial support to people who need it the most, but also want to create a safe haven for our interviewees. We want to make sure that everyone we meet is comfortable with sharing their stories and that they are not alone in their journey.
It’s important to note that these stories are on the heavier side, but with that comes the greater need to share them with a wider audience. We want to give a platform for unheard voices in Bali, and also empower others to use their own voice to speak up on experiences they have dealt with.
Unfortunately, the event is now over but you can still check out some of the gallery over at the Green School HOS and on the website under stories.
Have a look at what the event was like in the photos below!
